Residential and Commercial
Work Crews: Small groups report to various jobsites in the community,
supervised by our staff. Work training performed under contract includes motel services, litter control and residential
and business grounds maintenance. Each Associate has an individualized service plan tailored for personal growth.
Individual Employment:
Associates are hired by local employers in positions identified as consistent with their skills and
interests. Job duties may be modified with the employer to assure the best job match. Ongoing support including
on the job training, co-worker guidance and monitoring is provided by our staff, meeting the needs of both the employee and
the employer. Local businesses currently employing our Associates include Arbys, Fred Meyer, Safeway, TGIFridays, Wal-Mart,
Pacific Lutheran University, King County and Group Health, Inc.
Workshop Services: Within Tahoma's facility,
Associates perform sub-contract packaging, assembly and records shredding tasks for local businesses and industries.
Our staff develop individualized goals with each Associate, addressing increases in productivity and wages, developing work
related skills and expanding social interactions. Shop staff also advocate for inclusion of workers in group and
individual placements.
Person
to Person: A clearinghouse service for individuals in search of employment.
DSHS requires program participants to be on a pathway to employment, consistent with their abilities and aspirations.
Some Associates in this service await placement in a competitive job in the community. Others seek to develop vocational
interests and related skills that might lead them to some form of occupation. Activities are community based, and may
include contribution through voluntering, or planning steps toward achieving future goals.
Community Access: Individuals
whose personal goals don't include employment, participate in community events they enjoy and which expand their circle of
friends. Individualized activities are facilitated by our staff, linking them to others who share common interests in
learning, sports, culture, and community. Individuals must be at least 62 years of age to be eligible for this
service, or upon special exception by DSHS.
